Dr Alberto Monje, honoured with the IADR's prestigious 2026 Sigmund S. Socransky Award

The lecturer and researcher in Periodontics from UIC Barcelona’s Faculty of Dentistry has received the prestigious Sigmund S. Socransky Young Investigator Award, one of the most important international distinctions for early-career researchers in the field of periodontal research

The award, granted by the International Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research (IADR), recognises scientific excellence and the outstanding contributions of emerging researchers in the field of oral health. The award ceremony took place on 26 March in San Diego, as part of the organisation’s annual meeting.

The award constitutes a major milestone in Dr Alberto Monje’s research career, particularly in the field of implant therapy, one of his main lines of research. His research focuses on the prevention of peri-implant diseases, such as peri-implantitis, as well as on the development and optimisation of therapeutic approaches aimed at heightening treatment predictability.

According to Dr Monje, “it is a great honour and responsibility, as the recognition of my contribution to this field is a great source of motivation and encourages me to continue to strive for high-quality, impactful research, particularly in the area of implantology.”

In addition to his teaching and research activities at UIC Barcelona, Dr Monje plays a key role in the international scientific community. He is secretary general of the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA) and serves as associate editor for prestigious scientific journals such as the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research and the International Journal of Oral Implantology. He also co-edited the book Unfolding Peri-Implantitis, which has been translated into four languages.

This distinction strengthens the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Dentistry’s commitment to research excellence and its position as a leading international institution in the field of oral health.
