On 2 April, the annual 21st Century Medicine National Awards gala was held in Madrid, where 29 leading medical professionals received recognition for their excellence and track record in teaching, research and patient care.

Dr Josep Rubio Palau, lecturer of the Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry, the University Master's Degree in Comprehensive and Hospital-Based Paediatric Dentistry and the Online Master's Degree in Comprehensive and Hospital-Based Paediatric Dentistry at UIC Barcelona, won the award for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery category.

A graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona and Dentistry from UIC Barcelona, Dr Rubio has been president of the Catalan-Balearic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and currently combines teaching with his professional activity as head of Maxillofacial Surgery at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona.

The 21st Century Medicine National Awards are given annually in recognition of the talent and dedication of healthcare professionals and encourage proactive networking and promote excellence and knowledge through teaching, research and patient care.
