EAP Sardenya celebrates its 25th anniversary and highlights its partnership with UIC

The dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr Esther Calbo, attended the commemorative event, which reflected on the centre’s history and highlighted its collaboration with UIC in clinical training and primary care research

EAP Sardenya, a primary care centre affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, celebrated its 25th anniversary on 5 October with an official ceremony at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site in Barcelona. The Faculty dean, Dr Esther Calbo, attended the celebration, which brought together several institutional representatives, among them Josep Rull, president of the Parliament of Catalonia; Olga Pané, minister of Health for the Government of Catalonia; and Marta Villanueva, the Barcelona Municipal Council’s councillor for Health.

“We are delighted to join EAP Sardenya in commemorating such a significant milestone,” explained Dr Calbo. “For UIC, it is very important to form partnerships with institutions that share our approach to health and our commitment to people. Together, we work to train the healthcare professionals of the future, guided by an affective-effective model that puts people at the centre and shapes the way we care for and support patients.”

A partnership for advancing teaching and research in primary care

The collaboration between UIC and EAP Sardenya, recognised as an affiliated university centre, strengthens the primary care centre’s role in providing hands-on training for students enrolled on health-related degree programmes. This partnership enables students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to complete their clinical training in a primary care setting, gaining first-hand experience in clinical practice and a deeper understanding of patients’ real needs. The collaboration also supports the academic and research development of EAP Sardenya’s healthcare professionals.

Over its 25 years of history, EAP Sardenya has consolidated its work in healthcare, teaching and research, earning several awards and recognitions. The anniversary celebration highlights EAP Sardenya’s track record and its collaboration with UIC within the UIC Health ecosystem, a partnership that helps bridge university education and clinical practice while promoting person-centred healthcare.
