The Faculty of Communication Sciences adds two specialisations to the bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication

In the 2026-2027 academic year, the Faculty of Communication Sciences will introduce two additional specialisations within the Journalism and Audiovisual Communication degrees, with a view to adapting the curriculum to the industry’s new professionals demands

Starting next academic year, future Journalism and Audiovisual Communication students at UIC Barcelona will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in two cutting-edge professional fields: corporate communication and production and directing. Following approval from the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya) and the Universities Council, both degree programmes will incorporate specific specialisations designed to prepare students in these areas:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism: Specialisation in Corporate Communication
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication: Specialisation in Production and Directing

More specifically, Journalism will include a specialisation in Corporate Communication in the 2026-2027 academic year. Future Audiovisual Communication students will have the chance to gain specific knowledge on Production and Directing, reinforcing the Faculty’s commitment to offering courses aligned with the demands of today’s labour market. As for Advertising and Public Relations, the programme will have more marketing and design courses from year one.

According to Núria Roca Trenchs, vice-dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, “efforts are being made to amend the curricula because the communication ecosystem is undergoing a profound transformation, and we must respond decisively.” “New professional demands, the impact of technology and internationalisation and globalisation require us to offer a more specialised course selection,” explained the vice-dean and teaching staff member at UIC Barcelona.

The new curriculum, which will take effect in the 2026-2027 academic year, also introduces courses centred on the application of artificial intelligence in communication. In line with UIC Barcelona’s internationalisation strategy, 25% of the subjects across the three degree programmes will be taught in English and focused on the field of communication.

The new curriculum was evaluated and approved by AQU Catalunya on 16 June 2025 and ratified by the Ministry of Universities on 18 July 2025, as part of the process of adapting degree programme reports to the structure provided for in Royal Decree 822/2021.
