The Faculty of Dentistry reinforces its internationalisation with a new exchange programme with Rutgers School of Dental Medicine
Through the exchange programme between the two institutions, Gerard Parra and Claudia Bueno, students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry, undertook a two-week training stay in New Jersey, while Noelle Shroyer and Katherine Shroyer gained first-hand insight into the clinical education offered by the Faculty of Dentistry on the Sant Cugat Campus
The Faculty of Dentistry at UIC Barcelona continues to strengthen its commitment to internationalisation through an exchange programme with Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (USA). Under this cooperation agreement, students from both institutions may further their clinical and academic education in an international context.
This year, Gerard Parra and Claudia Bueno, fourth-year Dentistry undergraduates, completed a training placement at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in New Jersey. Over the course of two weeks, they learned first-hand about the US dental system and discovered new clinical and professional approaches.
“My time at Rutgers was a deeply enriching experience, both academically and personally. It gave me the opportunity to explore a different clinical approach and see how dentistry is practised in the United States,” explains Gerard Parra.
For her part, Claudia Bueno notes that the mobility programme “was a highly enriching experience that allowed me to step outside my comfort zone, learn new ways of working and broaden my perspective on dentistry, both academically and personally.”
Meanwhile, Noelle Shroyer and Katherine Shroyer, students at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, took part in an academic placement in the Faculty of Dentistry on the Sant Cugat Campus. During their visit, they attended lectures, observed the students’ clinical practice and explored the European educational model.
Above all, the students from the US highlighted the academic environment, the warm welcome they received and the students’ strong commitment to their clinical training. “Right from the start, both the teaching staff and students made us feel right at home. It was an amazing experience to exchange knowledge with others who share our passion for dentistry and learn how the profession is taught and practised in Europe,” they affirmed.
This exchange programme reflects the Faculty’s commitment to providing students international training and offering academic experiences that ensure future dentists receive a comprehensive education, with a global perspective on the profession.
