Joan Hernandez and Maria Pujol, lecturers for the Faculties of Communication Sciences and Education, respectively, participated in the RELIG 2023 Conferences. Alex Solergibert, fourth-year student in the Audiovisual Communication degree programme, also cooperated and the three speakers presented their project titled “La terminologia religiosa en català. Recerca sobre el diccionari de les religions” [Religious Terminology in Catalan. Research on the Dictionary of Religions].
These conferences, which took place last Wednesday, 8 November, dealt with the generic theme of good practices for promoting the Catalan language in the religious field. The competitive project, led by UIC Barcelona, was carried out jointly with the Universities of Barcelona and Loyola and was presented by the two lecturers, Hernández and Pujol, and the student, Solergibert.
The purpose of this project is to create a document that serves as an additional resource to the current Termcat dictionary in the religious field. It is therefore a useful tool for professionals in areas such as Journalism and Education.
The project includes an analysis of the most searched words or words considered fundamental to understanding religious culture, and thus enriches the knowledge and dissemination of the Catalan language in this field.
The RELIG 2023 Conferences were organised by the School of Public Administration and the Office of Religious Affairs of the Generalitat de Catalunya, with cooperation of the Department of Culture and Language Standardisation.
