OIANT rewards teaching innovation with artificial intelligence in the first edition of the Call for Innovation in AI-Enhanced Teaching
The Observatory on Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies (OIANT) at UIC Barcelona hosted the inaugural edition of the Call for Innovation in AI-Enhanced Teaching on 22 September 2025. The event, held in the Saló de Graus, is part of UNESCO’s Extended Programme “Towards MONDIACULT 2025” and was sponsored by the Chalhoub Group.
Frederic Marimon, director of the OIANT, and Joan Hernández, lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, opened the event by emphasising that the initiative seeks to recognise and support innovative projects that incorporate artificial intelligence into teaching. It aims to foster education that is more inclusive, accessible and responsive to the needs of the 21st century.
The first prize was awarded to Dr Anna Akhmedova from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences for her proposal AI Teaching Innovators Incubator (AITII): Empowering Faculty-Led AI Innovations Across Disciplines. In addition, commendations were given to other outstanding initiatives addressing areas such as legal education, basic life support training, dentistry and pharmaceutical data analysis using AI.
- Enhancing legal education through AI-driven case analysis and interactive learning tools – Dr Marc Simon, Faculty of Law
- Improving community resilience: Basic life support training using mixed reality, artificial intelligence and advanced scenarios – Dr Elisabet García, Department of Nursing
- Endocaser, the app for structured clinical data entry in endodontics – complete monitoring and evaluation of the treatments carried out for each student, automatic storage of structured data for scientific studies, legal protection of medical records and automation of treatments statistics – Mr Sergio Irazusta, Faculty of Dentistry
- Analysis of open data on drug billing using an AI-based data analysis tool – Dr Mireia Andrés, Department of Medicine
This initiative reaffirms UIC Barcelona’s commitment to equipping future generations with the skills and knowledge required for technological innovation and artificial intelligence, delivering tools that make a tangible impact on society.
