Physiotherapy students participate as volunteers in the OnCodines solidarity race

UIC Barcelona cooperated for the first time in the third edition of the OnCodines Trail race, which took place last Saturday, 15 April. In all, six students in the last year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy at the University participated as volunteers in the recovery area to care for participants at the finish line.

On Saturday, 15 April, the third edition of the OnCodines Trail took place. The race is a solidarity sports challenge with a mountain route, forest tracks and urban areas, that runs through several urban centres in the Vallès Oriental and the Moianès areas. A total of 129 teams, each made up of three to six members, participated in the race: 80 kilometres running or 60 walking.

Each team had to make a minimal donation, which went to the entities following entities: Oncovallès, Barcelona Brain Health Initiative and the Enriqueta Villavecchia Children’s Oncology Foundation. These donations have been invested in supporting and helping cancer patients and their families, in purchasing medical equipment and in research.

Led by lecturer Pol Serra, cooperating students participated as volunteers in the recovery area of the race. Here, runners who needed assistance were cared for by future physiotherapists, with different interventions such as massage and stretching to release muscle tension and flush the metabolites produced by exercise, reduce fatigue and facilitate recovery.
