UIC Barcelona maintains its international presence in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) has further cemented its presence in the international university landscape following a repeat appearance in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR), one of the world’s most prestigious academic ranking systems. UIC Barcelona scored in the 1001-1200 range out of the 2,191 international universities comprising the list and placed in the 27-38 range among the 57 ranked Spanish universities.

Of particular note in this edition is UIC Barcelona’s improved performance over last year in two of the five pillars that make up the ranking: Teaching (+3.5) and International Outlook (+0.4). In the case of the latter, UIC Barcelona ranks among the top four universities in Spain, testament to its capacity to attract international undergraduate and postgraduate students and scholars.

The methodology employed by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) includes 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators, which measure each institution’s performance in five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.

THE WUR continues to be the leading international ranking on which excellence in higher education is based. This year's ranking features 2,191 universities from 115 countries. Compared to the previous edition, 99 new institutions were included, bringing the total number of participating universities to over 3,000 worldwide. To compile this year’s list, the organisers analysed close to 157 million citations from 18.7 million research publications and included survey responses from almost 1.5 million academic votes from around the world submitted as part of THE’s exclusive Academic Reputation survey.

The aim of the UIC Barcelona Statistical Data and Rankings Office is to measure the University’s performance in different areas through data and evidence, heightening its visibility both nationally and internationally thanks to the social impact of rankings and lists.
