UIC Barcelona partners with the Catalan Association for Science Communication
UIC Barcelona has joined the Catalan Association for Science Communication (ACCC) as a new partner institution; an association which brings together professionals, institutions and organisations committed to the rigorous communication of scientific knowledge.
“Research reaches its full potential when knowledge extends beyond the university and reaches society,” explains Román Pérez Antoñanzas, vice-rector for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer at UIC Barcelona. In this regard, “joining the ACCC enables us to strengthen our commitment to knowledge transfer, increase the visibility of our researchers and, at the same time, contribute to Catalonia’s science communication ecosystem through the expertise and breadth of knowledge generated within our university community,” the Vice-Rector added.
For her part, Marta Pulido Salgado, ACCC president, highlighted that “UIC Barcelona’s incorporation into the ACCC’s network of partner institutions reinforces the connection between universities and science communication at a time when rigorous science communication is essential for bringing research closer to society and fostering an informed public debate.”
This new partnership reflects UIC Barcelona’s commitment to strengthening the presence of academic knowledge in the public domain and generating new opportunities for its researchers to share their work with society. The University is already involved in initiatives aimed at introducing scientific knowledge into the public debate, such as La Conversa, the Catalan edition of The Conversation, a platform which connects university research with society through articles written by researchers and edited by specialised journalists.
With this agreement, UIC Barcelona takes yet another step forward in its strategy to promote science communication, expand its presence within Catalonia’s science communication ecosystem and enhance the societal impact of the research carried out at the University.
