UIC Barcelona School of Architecture students will take part in the project “El Collet”

The project involves students and lecturers from the School of Architecture and aims to develop perspectives and trends to improve the archaeological sites at El Collet. UIC Barcelona will run this project alongside the Calonge i Sant Antoni Town Council and other institutions.

El Collet is a hill in Sant Antoni de Calonge where, since 2014, there have been archaeological digs to uncover a Roman villa from the 2nd century BC. Through the “El Collet” project, UIC Barcelona has partnered with the Calonge and Sant Antoni Town Council and the BCD Barcelona Design Centre to improve this historic site.

This initiative, led by the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Knowledge Transfer at UIC Barcelona, is carried out within the framework of the Master’s Degree in Architecture & Design Business Management. Maria Isabel Gabarró, lecturer of the master’s degree, will lead the 16 students who will work on developing perspectives and trends at the archaeological site.

Once the students have drawn their conclusions, students from the Master's Degree in Urban Resilience for Sustainability Transitions, led by Lorenzo Chelleri, will work on the project from a more urban and territorial perspective.

The “El Collet” project will be approached from the perspective of two master’s degrees at the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, in order to provide an appropriate, current response based on the needs of citizens and the local area. Participation from both master's degrees will provide a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach that should result in effective and sustainable solutions to improve the activity at El Collet.
