UIC Barcelona students to offer dental care to children as part of the Invulnerables programme

The initiative will be run in conjunction with "la Caixa" and Sister Lucía Caram, who for the last three years have been running the Invulnerables programme aimed at helping to overcome poverty in families.

UIC Barcelona and the CaixaProinfància Invulnerables programme have signed an agreement to run a project that will provide dental services to children and families at risk of social exclusion at the dental centres forming part of the project. The services will be provided at a subsidised price to ensure professional and accessible care and thus improving the quality of life of these groups.

The activity will be run from the dental clinics in Catalonia participating in the project, in the geographical areas included in the Invulnerables project, to ensure the dental health of children and their families as an essential step to guaranteeing their integral well-being. The treatment of the patients who are referred by the dental clinics will be delivered by the UIC Barcelona University Dental Clinic.

Invulnerables, the initiative to fight child poverty driven by Sister Lucía Caram and the "la Caixa" Foundation, through its CaixaProinfància programme, works to break the cycle of poverty in families by promoting equal opportunities through public-private partnerships. The programme is currently run in all the areas where the Catalan government indicators show a high impact of child poverty: Manresa, Manlleu, Tarragona, El Vendrell, Tortosa, Lleida (districts of la Mariola, Secà de Sant Pere, Balafia i Pardinyes), Girona, Salt, Figueres, Lloret de Mar, Banyoles and Ripoll - Sant Joan de les Abadesses.
