UIC Barcelona's crowdfunding campaign #NoTalentWithoutAFuture helps 42 students who have been affected by the pandemic

Both individuals and companies, as well as the university community, have joined this initiative focused on helping vulnerable students.

UIC Barcelona launched the #NoTalentWithoutAFuture crowdfunding campaign in June 2020 with a view to supporting students and their families who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and are at risk of academic exclusion.

The initiative was active until the end of December 2020 and succeeding in raising more than €35,000 in donations from companies, individuals and members of the university community. These funds have allowed us to help a total of 42 students of eight nationalities on bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees in various disciplines, who were facing difficulties in pursuing their studies.

With the University’s Corporate Development department at the helm, the #NoTalentWithoutAFuture campaign is just one of the charitable initiatives launched by our institution during the pandemic.

As part of the campaign, the University’s Vice-Rectorate for Research and Knowledge Transfer also launched an internal call to urge researchers to provide multidisciplinary and social impact solutions to the problems sparked by this pandemic.

In response, Banco Santander's Fondo Supera COVID-19 donated a total of €70,000 to help researchers undertake one of the three selected projects: “Evaluación de la nicotina como inhibidor del receptor ACE2 para uso profiláctico en profesionales sanitarios y contactos de la COVID-19 (Estudio NICOVID)” (Assessing nicotine as an ACE2 receptor inhibitor for prophylactic use in healthcare professionals and COVID-19 cases [NICOVID study]). Led by researchers from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UIC Barcelona, the study aims to find new ways to mitigate infection and stop the spread of COVID-19.
