UIC unveils its new brand identity at the end-of-year University Assembly ahead of its 30th anniversary
The new brand identity, which will be rolled out progressively from September, reinforces the essence of the institution, founded in 1997 with the purpose of humanising the transformation of society. With a deeper, more vibrant blue adapted to current trends, the refreshed logo strengthens the University’s value proposition, built around four pillars: excellence and rigour, a global outlook, personalised support and experiential learning. UIC has nearly 30 years of experience in innovative learning and simulation methodologies and has been recognised in leading international rankings, including the QS World University Rankings.
Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) has unveiled its new brand identity during the end-of-year University Assembly, held today in the Aula Magna. In front of around 450 attendees, the institution shared the evolution of its brand identity with the university community. The new visual identity will begin to appear across all communications and branding materials from September.
Founded in 1997, UIC will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year with this refreshed identity, which reflects the university’s growth and development over the years and its recognition in a range of national and international rankings. “Our university is growing, and our brand is evolving with it,” said Rector Alfonso Méndiz.
With a more vibrant blue aligned with current trends, the new brand expression highlights the University’s value proposition, centred on its purpose of humanising the transformation of society. It does so through four pillars: excellence and rigour, a global outlook, personalised support and experiential learning.
The new identity forms part of a strategic plan focused on excellence and internationality, two priorities that shape a distinctive model of transformative education based on innovative methodologies such as experiential learning and simulation.
The same identity, expressed in new ways
The new brand identity reflects the University's roots, with Barcelona at its heart. It does so through a renewed shade of blue that maintains its connection to the sea while introducing a stronger tone. This enhances contrast, improves adaptability across digital environments and symbolises a vision firmly focused on the future.
The logo continues to draw inspiration from the city of Barcelona, retaining the original typeface designed around the layout of the streets of the Eixample district. At the same time, it evolves towards softer forms and rounded edges that reflect a human-centred and approachable value proposition, committed to making a positive impact on society through excellence in teaching and research, with people always at its heart.
The new visual identity also strengthens this connection with Barcelona through the introduction of an emblem inspired by the geometry of the city’s urban grid. This visual element accompanies and enriches the various expressions of the brand, creating a more consistent and recognisable identity.
From Barcelona to the world
At the same time, UIC carries one of its founding strategic priorities within its own name: internationality. Today, international students account for 31% of the student body across the University’s two campuses, where students from around 100 nationalities study side by side. The University also offers around 50 international double degree programmes through 480 mobility agreements with institutions in 64 countries. Beyond these figures, and in line with its internationalisation strategy, UIC has established strategic partnerships around the world and prepares future professionals with an open, intercultural outlook, equipping them to work in an increasingly global, rapidly changing and digital environment.
“From the University to the world” is the University’s new tagline. Alongside its new visual identity, UIC is introducing this new slogan to communicate its ambition to make a positive impact on the world through its global outlook.
The phrase also reflects the university’s mission to prepare individuals to practise their profession while developing critical thinking, promoting culture and contributing to scientific, social and human progress. With a graduate employment rate of 93.75%, according to the latest AQU Catalunya survey, and more than 5,000 placement agreements, UIC maintains strong links with industry and wider society through 16 business chairs, five business classrooms, eight research institutes and three university clinics.
A new brand territory: UIC Health
The new brand architecture introduces specialist areas such as UIC Health, an initiative launched in March at the Saló de l’Ensenyament higher education fair.
UIC Health is a health ecosystem that brings together seven interconnected disciplines on a single campus, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and creating synergies: Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Dentistry and Physiotherapy. These programmes operate alongside a teaching hospital, Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya (HGC), which forms part of a leading healthcare network associated with the University, comprising HGC, Hospital General de Granollers, Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa and EAP Sardenya.
The campus facilities dedicated to teaching and research also include biomedical and bioengineering research laboratories, physiotherapy training gyms and three University clinics: Support, the University Psychology and Psychiatry Clinic; the University Dental Clinic; and Cuides UIC Barcelona, a clinic specialising in advanced illness and palliative care. The campus is also home to the Comprehensive Centre for Advanced Simulation (CISA), which celebrated its tenth anniversary during this academic year. Covering more than 1,000 m², the centre enables students to undertake simulated clinical placements in a real-life healthcare environment from their first day, ensuring guided learning and a safe educational experience.
UIC has nearly 30 years of experience in innovative teaching methodologies centred on simulation and will celebrate 20 years of its Medicine programme next academic year. The new brand is being launched at a time of growth and strong momentum for the University, which holds a number of accreditations and is recognised in various national and international rankings.
Recognition in leading rankings
This academic year, UIC was ranked among Spain's top 10 universities in the Fundación CYD ranking. It was also included in Forbes' list of the 25 best universities in Spain and ranked among the world's top 40 universities for Dentistry in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Most recently, it was included in the QS World University Rankings 2027, one of the world's leading university ranking systems.
UIC also features in international research rankings. In 2025, nine of its researchers were included in Stanford University's prestigious Ranking of the World Scientists: World’s Top 2% Scientists.
