University Assembly: aligned with a strategy driven by purpose
The Aula Magna hosted the traditional University Assembly today, where the 2025–2026 academic year was reviewed and the priorities for the coming year were shared, in line with the UIC 28 Strategic Plan, which sets the institution’s roadmap. The rector of UIC Barcelona, Alfonso Méndiz, accompanied by the first vice-rector, Cristina Monforte, led the event, sharing with around 450 members of teaching and professional services staff the strategic projects currently involving the entire university community, all aligned around a common purpose: to humanise the transformation of society. The Assembly talked about talent, internationalisation, research and knowledge transfer, impact, and social commitment. In short, it focused on the purpose-driven strategy being implemented through the Strategic Plan, which is built around four strategic priorities: a humanistic, global, innovative and sustainable university.
New brand identity
As part of the Assembly, and with an eye on the institution’s 30th anniversary, a new brand identity was unveiled, which will begin to be introduced progressively from September. The new brand identity strengthens the essence of the institution: with a deeper blue adapted to current trends, the logo reinforces the University’s value proposition, built around four pillars: excellence and rigour, a global outlook, personalised support and experiential learning.
The logo has evolved towards softer forms and rounded edges that reflect a human-centred and approachable value proposition, committed to making a positive impact on society through excellence in teaching and research. The new visual identity also strengthens the connection with Barcelona through the incorporation of an emblem inspired by the geometry of the city’s urban layout, a visual resource that will accompany the brand across its different applications.
The change in brand identity forms part of a strategic plan that reinforces the University’s excellence and internationality. It comes as UIC marks almost 30 years of experience in innovative learning and simulation methodologies, and at a time of strong momentum and growth, having been recognised in leading international rankings such as the QS World University Rankings. “Our University is growing and our brand is growing with it,” the rector said during the presentation.
Appointments and renewals
The General Secretary, Ms. Belén Castro, then formally announced the appointments and renewals approved for the next academic year. Among them, Dr Montserrat Nebrera was appointed as the new dean of the Faculty of Law, a position she will take up on 1 September.
Medals recognising long service and commitment to the institution
As is tradition, the event continued with a heartfelt tribute to members of staff celebrating 10 and 25 years at UIC Barcelona. Miguel Ángel Cazcarra, chair of the Board of Trustees, presented Rector Alfonso Méndiz with a medal in recognition of his 10 years at the University.
The event concluded with a celebration involving the entire university community, bringing to a close an academic year marked by major projects and already looking ahead to the institution’s 30th anniversary.
