Xavier Gil, recognised for his research career in the prestigious Stanford University World’s Top 2% Scientists

Stanford University includes the Bioengineering Institute of Technology (BIT) researcher among the most influential scientists thanks to his research career and his scientific production in Bioengineering

The World’s Top 2% Scientists published by the Standford University in Elsevier, brings together nearly 200,000 scientists from 26 different areas. Among them is Xavier Gil, researcher in Bioengineering for the Department of Basic Sciences, who has an extensive scientific production in the area of Biomaterials and Bioengineering. Gil has led more than 35 European and 79 national research projects, is the author of ten books and more than 370 international publications (h=60 and 11,389 citations), has more than 22 invention patents, and has presented more than 250 papers at conferences.

The researcher and former UIC Barcelona rector of is also a member of the UNESCO Chair in Biomaterials, a full member of the Spain’s Royal Academy of Dentistry, doctor honoris causa from two universities, and expert for the Spanish Interministerial Commission for Science and Technology (CICYT) on Materials and for the European Union on Dental Materials, as well as for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Currently, Gil is immersed in numerous projects, focusing specifically on applications in the field of Dentistry. Among these, two projects with the Ministry of Science and Technology stand out: “Preventitis” that aims to avoid infections in implants and “Producto-reto” for creating infection-free bone tissue. He is also the lead researcher for the National Peri-implantitis and Implantoplasty Network in Spain that includes more than 25 Spanish universities.

With the recognition of Xavier Gil, there are now nine UIC Barcelona researchers in the Standford University ranking. Eight lecturers and researchers from the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture are ranked among the most influential for their scientific production.
