Lecturer Anna Akhmedova presents incubator for teaching innovation using AI tools
Anna Akhmedova, lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, has been recognised by the Observatory of Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies (OIANT) for her teaching proposal based on artificial intelligence, aimed at both teaching staff and students.
The award-winning project, titled AI Teaching Innovators Incubator (AITII): Empowering Faculty-Led AI Innovations Across Disciplines is designed to deliver significant pedagogical benefits to students, teaching staff, the university, and the wider educational community. Based on the premise that AI can enhance teaching and learning, the incubator project seeks to offer practical, evidence-based strategies that can be implemented in the classroom.
Specifically, the researcher’s project addresses four teaching areas that typically require a high investment of time from lecturers and that have potential for improvement through AI: designing and reviewing course programmes, self-assessment of written work, creating engaging activities, and supporting feedback for students. The project focuses on the development of educational and methodological frameworks, rather than on specific solutions.
Divided into four phases, the implementation of this project would improve participation, clarity, and learning outcomes. Akhmedova illustrates that, through collaborative development of the tool by teaching staff, the project would foster critical thinking, enable the integration of more interactive AI-generated activities, and reduce the time spent on routine tasks by lecturers, among other benefits.
The project, scheduled to be implemented during the current academic year, will involve between six and nine lecturers who will train the tool, evaluate it based on feedback from both teaching staff and students, and subsequently disseminate it. This process will culminate in the creation of a best practice guide for the University.
According to the lecturer’s description, the incubator promotes sustainable change and equips teaching staff with a long-term tool to critically design, implement, and evaluate AI-enhanced teaching.
