UIC climbs in the 2026 UI GreenMetric international sustainability rankings

UIC has placed 364th worldwide out of 2,016 universities and 11th nationally among 32 Spanish universities, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and strengthening its international standing

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an international ranking that assesses universities’ commitment to sustainability across six key areas: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation and education and research. Through these indicators, it analyses the policies and initiatives implemented by universities to integrate sustainability into campus management, academic activities and research.

In the 2026 edition of the UI GreenMetric Rankings, UIC achieved an overall score of 7,562.5 out of 10,000, a result that reflects the University’s commitment to sustainability and its gradual integration into all areas of university life.

In this edition, UIC performed particularly well in energy and climate change, with 1,575 points out of a possible 2,000; waste, with 1,650 points out of 1,700; and transportation, with 1,300 points out of 1,700. These results highlight the University’s efforts to embed sustainability across its academic and research activities, promote the responsible management of resources and implement measures to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

This underscores UIC’s commitment to sustainability and its ongoing efforts to integrate it into all areas of university life. This commitment is aligned with the Strategic Sustainability and Social Commitment Plan 2023–2026 and is implemented, among other ways, through the work of the Office for Cooperation and Sustainable Development, which promotes and coordinates initiatives designed to advance sustainability and social responsibility within the university community.

Taking part in the UI GreenMetric Rankings helps the University track its progress, identify opportunities for improvement and continue to promote initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable, responsible and committed university community.
