Cooperation and Sustainable Development Office

The Office for Cooperation and Sustainable Development at UIC Barcelona is responsible for coordinating, promoting and monitoring the University’s policies, programmes and initiatives related to sustainability, university development cooperation and social commitment.

Established in 2010, the Office’s remit was expanded in December 2019, when the Board of Governors incorporated development cooperation into its responsibilities. The Office’s primary aim is to advance a comprehensive approach to sustainability – encompassing its environmental, social and economic dimensions – and to promote the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the University’s activities.

The Office coordinates the University’s sustainability initiatives across its campuses, monitors the implementation of its sustainability strategies and collects information on the initiatives carried out by UIC Barcelona’s faculties, departments, services and administrative units.

The Office works collaboratively across the University with the Sustainability and Social Commitment Committee, as well as other units, including Operations, Communications, Research, Teaching Staff and Academic Planning, International Relations and other services involved in implementing sustainability-related initiatives.

Its main responsibilities include:

• Coordinating and advancing the implementation of the SDGs at UIC Barcelona.
• Tracking the Strategic Sustainability and Social Commitment Plan.
• Promoting awareness, training and engagement initiatives for the University community.
• Supporting the integration of sustainability into teaching, research, campus operations and social action.
• Collecting, analysing and systematising information on sustainability projects, initiatives and indicators.
• Preparing institutional reports and responding to questionnaires, rankings and external assessments relating to sustainability and social commitment.
• Coordinating and disseminating university development cooperation projects in research, teaching and social engagement.
• Representing the University in sustainability- and SDG-related networks, meetings and working groups at the local, regional, national, European and international levels.

The Office also organises outreach activities, workshops, seminars, conferences and environmental and social awareness campaigns open to the entire university community. These initiatives help foster a university culture committed to sustainability, global justice and social transformation.
