Students from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences joined a discussion on the green transition and sustainable development with young people from Spanish and Chinese universities

The Aula Magna hosted the traditional University Assembly today, where the 2025–2026 academic year was reviewed and the priorities for the coming year were shared, in line with the UIC 28 Strategic Plan, which sets the institution’s roadmap. The rector of UIC Barcelona, Alfonso Méndiz, accompanied by the first vice-rector, Cristina Monforte, led the event, sharing with around 450 members of teaching and professional services staff the strategic projects currently involving the entire university community, all aligned around a common purpose: to humanise the transformation of society. The Assembly talked about talent, internationalisation, research and knowledge transfer, impact, and social commitment. In short, it focused on the purpose-driven strategy being implemented through the Strategic Plan, which is built around four strategic priorities: a humanistic, global, innovative and sustainable university.

Fredy Massad, a lecturer at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture and architecture critic for the newspaper ABC, organised the first Ibero-American Architecture Conference, which brought together five architects from Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay

The new brand identity, which will be rolled out progressively from September, reinforces the essence of the institution, founded in 1997 with the purpose of humanising the transformation of society. With a deeper, more vibrant blue adapted to current trends, the refreshed logo strengthens the University’s value proposition, built around four pillars: excellence and rigour, a global outlook, personalised support and experiential learning. UIC has nearly 30 years of experience in innovative learning and simulation methodologies and has been recognised in leading international rankings, including the QS World University Rankings.

The meeting, held at the University of Barcelona, brought together Catalan doctoral schools to address the main challenges facing doctoral education, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, academic quality and researcher wellbeing

Medyournal, a project developed by four students on the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences at UIC Barcelona and one student from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), has become one of the standout initiatives within UIC Barcelona’s entrepreneurial ecosystem this academic year, after receiving several accolades in innovation and entrepreneurship.
