Presentation of Bachelor's Degree Final Projects in Architecture
Final-year students at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture will present their Bachelor's Degree Final Projects (TFGs) on industrialised social housing at Roca Barcelona Gallery in Barcelona on 19, 20 and 21 October. The projects explore how architecture can help address the global housing crisis and propose solutions for the challenges ahead. Students work with new construction systems, prefabrication and industrialised construction methods.
The projects have been developed along two lines, led by architects and lecturers Alberto Burgos and Álvaro Cuéllar, and Josep Miàs and Anna Gutiérrez, respectively. The TFG assessment panel will be chaired by the renowned architect Bob Sheil. He served as director of The Bartlett School of Architecture from 2014 to 2021, founded the international FABRICATE conference, whose next edition will be held in Barcelona in 2027, and has been affiliated with University College London for more than three decades.
The TFGs are rooted in a challenge that extends far beyond the local context: access to housing. Their aim is to examine how a new generation of architects can respond to this crisis through solutions that could be applied both locally and internationally. The projects investigate new ways of building housing through industrialised and prefabricated construction systems, as well as innovative structural systems and materials that can reduce construction times and improve efficiency throughout the building process. They also propose new ways of organising residential space and adapting it to contemporary ways of living, incorporating shared facilities and solutions tailored to current needs such as remote working.
The initiative adopts a multi-scale approach, recognising that housing cannot be considered in isolation from the city and its wider surroundings. Students work on sites ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 m², paying particular attention to density, transitional spaces and varying degrees of privacy. They also develop the technical construction aspects of their proposals in detail, presenting full-scale (1:1) construction details.
The projects are linked to several of the School of Architecture's research lines. Two of the TFGs to be presented are associated with the Folding Industrialised Balconies (BIP) research line, led by Viçenc Sarrablo, and the Architectural Heritage Intervention research line, directed by Josep Lluis i Ginovart.
As part of the TFG presentations, the ROCKWOOL Sustainability Awards, the Daikin–Schneider Electric TFG Award for Building Services in Architecture 2026, and the Mutua de Propietarios Foundation Accessibility Award will be presented. These awards recognise outstanding projects in the fields of sustainability, building services applied to architecture and universal accessibility, respectively.
The event is open to the public.
