Presentation of the book ‘Flores en el desierto’, by Jaume Figa
On 29 June at 18.30, Dr Jaume Figa, lecturer in the Faculty of Communication Sciences, will present his new book Flores en el desierto. Historias de fe y esperanza en Oriente Medio (Flowers in the Desert: Stories of Faith and Hope in the Middle East), which offers an account of religious coexistence in Lebanon and the wider Middle East.
Synopsis
Through a series of personal accounts, the book explores the complex reality of Lebanon and the Middle East, marked by conflict, crisis and religious coexistence. It portrays a living, creative Christianity that sustains both faith and everyday life.
The author reflects on the region, with particular attention to Lebanon, a country shaped by war, economic crisis and a political structure based on confessionalism.
Drawing on stories of resilience and coexistence among different religions, the book highlights how Christianity is practised there as a creative and non-violent tradition in the face of conflict. From striking accounts of the Carmelite presence in Harissa to the widespread devotion to Saint Charbel, it presents Lebanon not only as a nation marked by hardship, but also as a plural setting in which everyday acts of hope sustain its people.
The event will take place in the Saló de Graus and does not require prior registration.
