The 18th Updates in Dentistry Conference brings together over 1,100 professionals at the Sant Cugat Campus
As is tradition, the event included the presentation of the Dr Miquel Cortada Awards for Scientific Excellence for the best bachelor’s and master’s final projects, as well as the third Career Forum, organised by the Alumni & Careers department
In line with its commitment to research, knowledge transfer, excellence and the promotion of oral health, the Faculty of Dentistry at UIC Barcelona hosted the 18th Updates in Dentistry Conference. This flagship event, held on Saturday 4 October at the Sant Cugat Campus, brought together over 1,100 professionals from various fields of dentistry and dental hygiene, offering them the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills and update their knowledge.
With a comprehensive programme of lectures and workshops, attendees were able to refresh their expertise guided by lecturers and postgraduate students who are leaders in their respective fields. The sessions covered the latest treatments and techniques in key specialities such as surgery, integrated clinical practice, endodontics, dental aesthetics, dental management, paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, special care dentistry and gerodontology, periodontics, preventive dentistry, and prosthodontics.
Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty, opened the conference by stating: “For those of us who are part of the Faculty of Dentistry family, it is a source of pride to celebrate the eighteenth edition of this conference. This occasion gives us the chance to reconnect with colleagues and former students who share our passion for dentistry, reminding us that we not only train professionals committed to lifelong learning, but also build personal bonds that extend beyond the classroom.”

The event also featured the traditional presentation of the Dr Miquel Cortada Awards. Vice-deans Dr Sandra Fernández and Dr Akram Ali announced the winners: Sofia Navarro Fábregas received the award for best bachelor’s degree final project for her work entitled “Antibacterial capacity of new submicrometric particles for disinfection in endodontics: An ex vivo study”, and Álvaro Babiano Nodal won the award for best master’s degree final project for his study “Impact of oral hygiene instructions in the resolution of peri-implant mucositis: A randomised controlled trial”.
As part of the conference, the III Career Forum was held, promoted by the Alumni & Careers department with the aim of creating a networking space between students and companies in the sector. Five companies participated, helping students from the Faculty to access the job market by presenting their job offers and providing opportunities to establish professional contacts.
One of the most special moments of the Updates in Dentistry Conference was the reunion of graduates from the class of 2005, who this year celebrated their 20th anniversary. Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty, led the heartfelt tribute to the professional and personal journeys of the Faculty’s alumni, highlighting the importance of maintaining and strengthening ties with former classmates, lecturers and the university community.
The 18th Updates in Dentistry Conference was supported by 27 leading companies in the sector, who showcased the latest innovations in dental technology and materials.
