Audiovisual Communication student Nicolau Huistra, UIC Barcelona’s new UNICAT ambassador

The Alumni UIC Barcelona Careers Service has chosen student Nicolau Huistra as the new UNICAT ambassador for the 2025-2026 academic year. The UNICAT network is an initiative of the Inter-University Council of Catalonia and the Government Delegation to the European Union (EU) and is comprised of twelve students from the twelve Catalan universities

The UNICAT Ambassador project is a network of volunteer ambassadors interested in sharing and disseminating job and traineeship opportunities in the European Union throughout the university community.

This year, the network includes twelve student representatives from all Catalan universities. Nicolau Huistra is a year-four Audiovisual Communication student and considers this role particularly relevant, as it “helps bring the European Union closer to students.” According to Nicolau, the EU is often perceived as a distant and complex institution, and having a point of reference within the university “makes it more accessible and helps students learn about and take advantage of opportunities that often go unnoticed.”

In terms of duties, he explains that his main role will be to serve as a communication bridge between the European Union and the University’s students, especially concerning traineeships, job opportunities and programmes linked to European institutions. The objective is to present this information “in a clear, appealing and student-friendly manner.”

The programme is an initiative of the Inter-University Council of Catalonia and the Government Delegation to the EU. These institutions are committed to working throughout the region to promote and disseminate the professional practices and opportunities offered by the European Union.
