On Tuesday, 26 June 2012, the third Presentation of Final Projects of fourth-year Audiovisual Communication students was held and the IMMA awards were handed out. The IMMA Award for best project went to 'Trotamundos'. The documentary 'Tío Alberto' was the big award winner, with six awards.
Over 100 people enjoyed the nine projects screened in the UIC main lecture hall on Tuesday afternoon, 26 June 2012. The projects (five documentaries, a children’s programme and three short films) showcased what was taught in the Audiovisual Communication Programme and how well students were able to put it into practice.
The award for best project went to Trotamundos, a children’s programme created by Meritxell Hernández, Carmen Ramos and Ana Moreno. In the programme, a group of puppet figures travel around the world introducing the audience to different cultures, cities and people. The project shows one episode in which the little tour guides visit Barcelona and give information about the city’s most famous sites.
However, the big winner at IMMA 2012 was the group made up of Elena de Arana, Xevi Pigem, Alba Marín, Marius Riba and Rosaura Vidal. With their documentary Tío Alberto, they won six awards, including best documentary, best screenplay and best director. Tío Alberto tells the story of Alberto Puig Palau, a real-life character and the great-grandfather of one of the members of the group. Puig was a fervent defender of Catalonia and singer Joan Manuel Serrat paid homage to him in his song of the same title. “He has a child’s tenderness, a poet’s madness and he still believes in love”, according to Serrat’s lyric.
This year the panel of judges for the IMMA Awards was made up of Arturo Méndiz, a professor in the UIC Faculty of Communication Sciences and the producer of the 2012 Goya Award winner for best short film; Dani Morell, the editor of the programme Alguna Pregunta Més? APM?, and the winner of the FAD award for best documentary for My Derry, filmed in Ireland; Javier J. Valencia, the holder of diploma in Criminology, a screenwriter and the author of two books, Twin Peaks: 625 líneas en el futuro (Twin Peaks: 625 Lines in the Future), and David Lynch, el Zar de lo bizarre (David Lynch: The Tsar of the Bizarre); Eduard Navarro, a director of photography, a professor at the Centre of Cinematographic Studies of Catalonia (CECC), the School of Image and Design (IDEP), Barcelona Film School (ECIB) and the UIC, as well as the Spanish translator of the book Cinematography: Theory and Practice; and UIC professors Ricard Mamblona, Isabel Villanueva and Óscar Sueiro.
