Lecturers Magda Bosch, Juan David Quiceno and Carla Vidal take part in the XXVI International Congress of Philosophy at the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce
Three lecturers from UIC Barcelona – Dr Magda Bosch from the Faculty of Humanities; Dr Juan David Quiceno from the Institute of Culture and Thought; and lecturer and doctoral researcher Carla Vidal from the Faculty of Education – took part in the XXVI International Congress of Philosophy, “Emotions and Flourishing: From Magda Arnold’s Proposal to Contemporary Psychological and Philosophical Perspectives”, held from 25–27 February at the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce in Rome.
During the congress, Dr Magda Bosch delivered a paper titled “Moral emotions: regulations and education”, and Carla Vidal presented “Moral imagination in light of Magda Arnold’s appraisal theory”. Their contributions added to the discussion on moral education, emotions and moral imagination in light of contemporary theoretical approaches.
The congress, focused on the study of emotions and their relationship with human flourishing, created a forum for dialogue between philosophical and psychological perspectives. International experts, including Barbara Fredrickson and Kristján Kristjánsson, contributed influential reflections in the fields of moral philosophy, positive psychology and character education.
Magda Blondiau Arnold
Magda Blondiau Arnold (1903, Moravia – 2002, United States) was a researcher and theorist whose work made a major contribution to the study of emotions. She formulated a theory of emotion known as appraisal theory and her research explored emotional processes, personality, memory and neurophysiological studies. The congress provided an opportunity to revisit Arnold’s contributions and to open the discussion to new paradigms.
Participation in this international forum helped foster new academic connections and created opportunities for collaboration and joint work with researchers from other universities and research centres.
