For the fifth year in a row, UIC Barcelona has entered the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking on Sustainability, the world sustainability ranking for universities. The university has been ranked 297th out of 1,477 universities worldwide,12th out of 32 Spanish universities, and is 1st out of the private universities in Spain.

The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking on Sustainability is an initiative of the Universitas Indonesia which was first carried out in 2010. The aim of this ranking is to measure the current situation and policies related to green campus and sustainability in universities worldwide through an online survey in which information is collected across six pillars: environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transport, and education and research.

In terms of the different indicators, UIC Barcelona was ranked 60th out of 1,477 universities in the Waste section. The UIC Barcelona Office of Cooperation and Sustainable Development stresses that waste treatment and recycling activities are important factors and have to be among the university's concerns, for example the recycling programme, organic and inorganic waste management, recycling of toxic waste as well as policies to reduce the use of paper and plastic on campus.

UIC Barcelona is present in these international rankings as part of the objectives of the Strategic Plan for Sustainability and Social Commitment 2023-2026. In line with this commitment, the Office of Cooperation and Sustainable Development of the University works to promote awareness, coordination and awareness of the different services.
