UIC Barcelona’s three university clinics consolidate a comprehensive healthcare model at the service of patients

The UIC Barcelona university clinics have been consolidated as spaces where knowledge, research and training are placed at the service of patients. Located on the Sant Cugat Campus, within the facilities of the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya, the University Dental Clinic, the Support Clinic – University Clinic of Psychology and Psychiatry and Cuides UIC Barcelona share a common model of care centred on the patient and designed to respond to the current challenges facing healthcare.

These three centres make it possible to transfer to society the knowledge generated in the classroom and through research projects. At the same time, they offer students the opportunity to train in real-world settings and to understand that knowledge acquires meaning when it is applied to the care and support of individuals.

The University Dental Clinic (CUO), the first of UIC Barcelona’s three clinics, opened in 2000 and has already treated more than 100,000 patients. The centre combines personalised dental care with the practical training of future professionals, who develop their skills through direct contact with patients and with the support of advanced, state-of-the-art technology.

In the field of mental health, the Support Clinic, inaugurated in 2018, has become a leading centre for psychological and psychiatric care for children, adolescents, adults and older people. The centre operates through a range of initiatives focused on emotional wellbeing, workplace mental health and specialised care for women who have experienced gender-based violence.

Cuides UIC Barcelona, established in 2022, is the first university clinic in Spain dedicated to the comprehensive care of people with advanced illnesses, palliative care and end-of-life support. With a multidisciplinary team comprising professionals from medicine, nursing, psychology and social work, the clinic is committed to a holistic model of care that addresses the physical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of patients, as well as those of their families.

The support bench

With the aim of raising awareness of this work and encouraging reflection on the value of support in times of vulnerability, Cuides UIC Barcelona has launched the initiative “The support bench” across the University’s two campuses. Under the slogan “Care knows no bounds”, a large white bench has been installed in central locations on both the Sant Cugat Campus and the Barcelona Campus (in the buildings on Carrer de la Immaculada and Carrer de Terré). The installation pays tribute to all those who have stood by someone when they needed it most and invites the university community to reflect on the importance of caring, listening and offering support.

Through these three university clinics, UIC Barcelona reaffirms its commitment to training healthcare professionals capable of combining technical excellence with comprehensive, patient-centred care.
