Representatives from ten Law faculties from around the world gathered at Strathmore University in Kenya to lay the foundations for a permanent international academic network. Representing UIC at this first international meeting of universities with shared educational values was Dr Montserrat Gas Aixendri, vice-dean of the Faculty of Law.

The forum provided an opportunity to discuss the major challenges facing legal education today, with a particular focus on the rise of artificial intelligence. Given the impact of these technologies on teaching and legal practice, the participating institutions agreed on the need for a coordinated approach to updating teaching methodologies and assessment systems, as well as developing new professional skills.

During the meeting, participants established a roadmap for promoting internationalisation and joint research. Among the initiatives agreed upon were the development of future double degree programmes, the promotion of teaching staff and student exchanges and the launch of interdisciplinary research projects that draw on the strengths of each institution.

The collaboration will also extend to experience-based learning and social engagement through law clinics. UIC, which will officially launch its own law clinic during the 2026-2027 academic year, will work closely with faculties that already have similar initiatives in place. The partnerships will include the exchange of methodologies, the analysis of real-world cases and the development of joint projects between clinics in different countries.

With its presence at Strathmore University, UIC Barcelona has taken another step forward in its internationalisation strategy and reaffirmed its commitment to excellence in legal education; education grounded in the humanistic values it shares with this new global academic network.
