The meeting, held at the University of Barcelona, brought together Catalan doctoral schools to address the main challenges facing doctoral education, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, academic quality and researcher wellbeing

The event, organised by the Doctoral School in cooperation with VRIT, brought together 120 doctoral candidates in a space devoted to scientific outreach, reflection and networking, with record participation in the poster and “Present Your Thesis in 4 Minutes” contests

Doctoral candidate Marta Ferrón, a graduate in Physiotherapy, received first prize and the distinction for the best thesis presented in Catalan for her work. She will represent UIC Barcelona in the interuniversity final of the competition, to be held on 11 June in Vic.

The study was conducted in cooperation with Dr Huichang Bi’s group at Southern Medical University in China, and the results show that fenofibrate, a medication prescribed to regulate high cholesterol, enhances cognitive abilities such as learning and memory, and also has positive effects on heart function.

The event, held on 4 December on the Barcelona Campus, brought together doctoral students, directors and academic representatives from the four doctoral programmes at UIC Barcelona and offered a full immersion into research culture at the University

The Director of the Doctoral School took part in a roundtable discussion on the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in doctoral training and supervision.

This was demonstrated by two studies presented by UIC Barcelona doctoral student Daniel Casanova and Dr Josep M. Badia, lecturer in the University’s Department of Medicine, at the recent annual congress of the Surgical Infection Society Europe (SIS-E).

The doctoral student in Health Sciences has won the internal “Present Your Thesis in 4 Minutes” competition held as part of the latest edition of UIC Barcelona’s PhDay. David Sánchez will go on to represent the University in the inter-university final of the contest organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI).
