8.45 a.m. Accreditations

9.15 a.m. – Opening:

Alfonso Méndiz (rector of UIC Barcelona) and Manuel Jiménez Maña (president of Fundación DPMC)

9.30 a.m. – Purpose: fashion or trend? *

Gvert Vroom (IESE), Maria Fernández Capo (UIC Barcelona), Joan Fontrodona (IESE) / Moderated by: Carlos Rey (UIC Barcelona)

In January 2020, the IESE Business School formally declared the start of “The Year of Purpose”. Two years later, does it still make sense to talk about purpose in the new cost-Covid era? Are we facing a passing fad or a continuing trend? What are the current challenges regarding purpose in organisations? To discuss these issues, we will be joined by three experts from different fields —strategy (Gvert Vroom, IESE), psychology (Maria Fernández, UIC Barcelona) and ethics (Joan Fontrodona, IESE)— who will offer us reflections, research and practical experiences on the role of purpose in the new post-Covid era.

10.45 a.m. – Becoming purpose-led in practice: learning from our work with major companies **

Charles Wookey, CEO Blueprint for Business

Since 2012, the independent charity Blueprint for Business has collaborated with the CEOs of the world's leading companies to develop corporate purpose (Unilever, Vodafone, Easyjet, NatWest Group, etc.). Charles Wookey, CEO of Blueprint, tells us about the successes, difficulties and lessons learned over his ten years helping big companies to be true “purpose-led organisations.”

11.30 a.m. – Driving purpose through management by missions

Mayte Márquez and Alex Montaner (DPMC)

After 20 years of research and practice in companies, the management by missions methodology continues to grow as a method of real impact in the implementation of purpose.

Given their experience in guiding companies on the path to rediscovering their purpose, the two speakers will offer examples of what this process can look and feel like for different organisations, teams and individuals.

11.45 a.m. – Break (breakfast)

ROOMS: B501, B502, B503, B504

12.15 p.m. – Start of parallel sessions

Through multiple cases of companies from various industries, we will see, in four parallel sessions, examples and experiences of how companies use management by missions to drive purpose in their organisations.

Each of the parallel sessions, moderated by experts in the field, will cover this issue from a specific perspective: strategy formulation, authentic leadership of purpose, coherence with practice and integration of purpose in everyday life.

2.15 p.m. – Lunch

3.30 p.m. – Presentation recognising the support to the Chair:

3.50 p.m. – Leadership in the Digital Age ***

Pablo Cardona (UNIR)

What are the keys to leadership in the new post-Covid era? What features of traditional leadership remain essential? What new skills and practices do we need to develop and which should we abandon? What challenges and opportunities does the new digital era present for the leadership development required by purpose and mission-driven leadership? These questions, together with profound reflections on the pivotal moment in which we find ourselves, will be debated by Pablo Cardona, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the UNIR and honorary president of the DPMC Foundation.

4.40 p.m. – Close:

Imad Younis (president Alpha Omega) and Jordi Bolea (Manager Teknics)

5.00 p.m. – End of the symposium
