This intensive summer course offers international and local students the opportunity to explore the art and craft of storytelling across media platforms, while experiencing Barcelona’s rich cultural backdrop. The programme offers a hands-on experience to help participants create impactful content in just one week.

Objectives

  • Introduce key principles of storytelling for audio and short video formats.
  • Provide practical training in content production (audio and digital).
  • Foster intercultural collaboration and creativity.
  • Produce a short multimedia project to be presented at the end of the week.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme, participants will:

  • Understand the essentials of narrative design and digital storytelling.
  • Gain hands-on experience in producing short multimedia stories.
  • Work collaboratively in multicultural teams.

Interactive lectures, workshops, group work and production labs.

Assessment

Course evaluation will be based on final project presentations in the form of short videos or multimedia pieces.

Curriculum

Study programme and subjects 2025-2026

    Programme structure:

    Day 1 – Monday: Foundations of Storytelling
    • Welcome session & orientation.
      Lecture: “The Power of Storytelling in the Digital Age.”
      Workshop: Identifying stories that matter – from personal narratives to social issues.
      Group formation and project brainstorming.
    Day 2 – Tuesday: Narrative Design and Scriptwriting
    • Seminar: Story structures (classic vs. contemporary).
    • Workshop: Developing characters, voices and arcs.
    • Practical session: Writing a short script or storyboard for multimedia content.
    Day 3 – Wednesday: Visual and Digital Content Production
    • Introduction to audiovisual storytelling tools (camera, smartphone, editing apps).
    • Workshop: Shooting techniques, framing and sound basics.
    • Practical group work: Capturing raw material for projects.
    Day 4 – Thursday: Editing, Branding and Platforms
    • Seminar: Editing as storytelling – cutting for clarity and emotion.
    • Workshop: Content strategies for different platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram).
    • Group work: Editing and preparing final projects.
    Day 5 – Friday: Showcase and Feedback
    • Workshop: Pitching and presenting stories.
    • Final project presentations (short videos or multimedia pieces).
    • Group reflection and feedback session.
    • Closing ceremony and certificates of participation.

Prerequisites & admissions

Body

This course is open to international and local undergraduate or graduate students.

The programme will be taught entirely in English. Non-native students must have at least a B2 level of English.

Admissions process

Apply for a spot in our UIC Barcelona Summer Programme by completing the online application. Deadline extended to 1 May 2026.

The following documents must be attached to the form:

  • Official transcript of records
  • Passport or identity document
  • Non-native speakers must submit proof of having at least a B2 level of English or equivalent 

Course confirmation and tuition fee payment

Following the application period, we will inform you whether your place has been confirmed.

Once your place has been confirmed, you must make the corresponding payment. Deadline extended to 15 May 2026.

UIC Barcelona reserves the right to cancel a course if the minimum number of participants is not reached.
