Nuria Masip wins the “Describe your thesis in 4 minutes” competition

Masip will be the UIC Barcelona representative at the interuniversity finals of the competition organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI)

On Friday, 7 May, the final stage of the internal competition “Describe your thesis in 4 minutes” was held online. This year's edition, organised by the University's Doctoral School, received participation from a total of 6 doctoral students from programmes related to Communication, Education and the Humanities, the Economics and Law Sector and the Health Sciences Sector.

The jury for this fourth edition consisted of a president, a spokesperson and a secretary. They were Jaume Reventós, member of the Academic Doctoral Committee for Health Sciences; Dr María Cerrato, a lecturer from the Faculty of Education Sciences and Dr Jaume Figa, a member of the committee for the 25th anniversary of UIC Barcelona, respectively.

All the doctoral students were challenged to describe their research in a maximum of 4 minutes in a language that is simple and easily understandable for members of the general public. Finally, the jury decided that the winner would be Nuria Masip, based on the presentation of her thesis entitled “Don’t stop me now: CDK6 is activated by the atomic cyclone tone promote E2F-mediated gene expression and cancer cell proliferation. Complejo atípico CDK6-ciclina I: nuevas piezas del rompecabezas del cáncer”.

The doctoral candidate, from our Health Sciences programme, will represent UIC Barcelona during the interuniversity finals of the competition organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI) on 22 June which will be held in person.

Second prize was awarded to PhD candidate Carla Martos for her thesis entitled “Forgiveness assessment in communication between health professionals and patients”, while third prize was given to Laura García with her thesis entitled “Buscando maneras de ganar movilidad tras uno ictus: efectos inmediatos de la tecarterapia como coadyuvante al masaje funcional del gastrocnemio y recto femoral en pacientes cono espasticidad postictus”.
