UIC Barcelona, among Spain’s most sustainable universities, according to UI GreenMetric 2025
The university earned an overall score of 7,072.5 out of 10,000 points, reflecting its ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability across campus management, teaching, research and university life
UIC Barcelona has once again been recognised in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, the international ranking that evaluates universities’ commitment to sustainability. In the 2025 edition, the University ranks 436th worldwide out of 1,745 universities and 14th nationally among 34 evaluated Spanish universities, further cementing its position as an institution committed to sustainable development.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings assesses the sustainability policies and practices of higher education institutions across six main areas: Infrastructure and Setting; Energy and Climate Change; Waste; Water; Transportation; and Education and Research.
In this edition, UIC Barcelona earned an overall score of 7,072.5 out of 10,000 points, reflecting its ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability across campus management, teaching, research and university life.
By assessment category, the University performed particularly well in Energy and Climate Change and Waste Management, in which it scored 1,650 out of 2,100 and 1,650 out of 1,800, respectively.
UIC Barcelona participates in these international rankings as part of the objectives outlined in its 2023–2026 Strategic Sustainability and Social Commitment Plan. In line with this commitment, the University’s Office for Cooperation and Sustainable Development works continuously to coordinate and raise awareness among the various services, promoting cross-cutting initiatives that strengthen sustainability across all areas of the institution.
UIC Barcelona’s continued inclusion in the UI GreenMetric Rankings further reaffirms the University’s institutional commitment to continuous improvement and to moving towards a university model that is increasingly responsible, innovative and environmentally conscious.
