Professional experience

I started my research activity at the Vall de Hebron University Hospital (HUVH) in the field of protein metabolism in relation to surgical stress, parenteral nutrition and ageing.

After a postdoctoral stay at the Department of Biochemistry of the UB in 2001, where I participated in the study of the physiopathology of cancer cachexia.

I returned to the HUVH, where I collaborated in projects in the field of nephrology and general surgery (abdominal wall repair).

In 2004, I moved to the Biomedical Research Unit (HUVH), where I focused my research on prostate pathologies and surgical repair of the abdominal wall.

In 2012 I joined the General Surgery Research Group (Vall de Hebron Research Institute; VHIR), consolidated by AGAUR, where I am still a researcher.

I have participated in competitive projects in the field of abdominal wall, pelvic organ prolapse (in collaboration with the Gynaecology Service, HUVH); and in the study of adipose tissue biology after bariatric surgery. I have also participated in projects linked to agreements with private bodies.

As a result, there have been publications in national and international indexed journals, communications have been presented at national and international congresses, and I have been a member of the Scientific Board of the XII National Congress of Abdominal Wall Surgery (2013), and the 45th Congress of the European Hernia Society (2023).

For the last 20 years I have been supervisor of university and professional training placements, undergraduate and postgraduate projects and I have been co-director of four doctoral theses.

I have been a collaborating lecturer in the Bachelor of Medicine at the UIC for 10 years, and since 2020 I have been coordinating the Clinical Biochemistry course in the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the same university.

I have also been involved as a lecturer in university Master's courses (UAB, UB).
