Reception and tutoring
The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) seeks to facilitate the incorporation and adaptation of all new students by means of a welcoming session organised by the University Master’s Degree in Research in Dentistry, the information on which is sent by letter or by e-mail, in a personalised way.
During the welcoming session, the new students will receive a general description of the UIC, and a representative from some Services, shall offer a brief explanation about the workings of the Service and the type of information and activities that students will find there. The session will be followed by an academic presentation of the Master’s programme by the actual Programme Management, the idea being one of providing an acquaintance with the facilities and services of the Faculty and the Department.
Materials for the newly-accessed students:
- UIC folders. The folders will contain the timetables of the University Master’s Degree in Research in Dentistry, the UIC Diary for the academic year starting then and a Welcome Pack.
- Students will be sent to the e-mail address they provided when enrolling, their username and password to access their personal page. An UIC e-mail account will automatically be generated too.
- Student card. The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya’s student card identifies its holder as a member of the UIC university community, certifies the condition of beneficiary of the university services, premises and facilities, and allows the use, in an automated way, of the library loan services from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya’s library network.

Final Master Project
Module 3 (24 ECTS) integrates the Research Protocol and the Final Master Project, accounting for approximately half of the total credits. This module focuses on the design of the research project, the consolidation of scientific methodology, and the development of the practical component of the research. Students acquire advanced methodological skills to initiate research activities and prepare for doctoral studies.
The Final Master Project is developed throughout the programme under the supervision of a director appointed by the Executive Board, in accordance with UIC Barcelona regulations governing its preparation, monitoring, documentation, and oral defence. The director ensures that the expected competencies are acquired.
Regarding the Research Protocol, students prepare a report in accordance with the guidelines and deadlines established by the Scientific Committee. The director evaluates scientific rigour, literature review, methodology, and research instruments, while the Committee periodically reviews the assessment system to ensure academic quality.
For the Final Master Project, students conduct their research following the guidelines and deadlines established by the Scientific Committee. Upon submission, the project is sent to an examination panel appointed by the Faculty Board, upon proposal of the programme’s Executive Board, for oral defence, in accordance with the University’s internal regulations governing Final Degree and Master Projects.
Assessment of the Final Master Project focuses on scientific and methodological rigour, including literature review, alignment with the research hypothesis, analysis of results, and conclusions. The Scientific Committee periodically reviews this system to ensure the scientific and educational quality of student training.
International mobility
Procedures for the Organization of Mobility for Incoming and Outgoing Students
The mobility activities of the University Master’s Degree in Research in Dentistry are designed, implemented, and evaluated in alignment with the programme’s objectives and the competencies students are expected to acquire upon completion of their studies. Particular emphasis is placed on mobility linked to the Final Master Project (FMP), enabling students to carry out their research at other universities or research centres in areas aligned with their interests and promoting collaboration between research groups.
For each mobility placement, a specific agreement is established with the host institution, allowing the student to join a designated research team. At the host institution, students are assigned an academic supervisor who acts as the director of the Final Master Project. The programme coordination team, with the support of the International Relations Office, is responsible for contacting the host institution, establishing the agreement, and providing information regarding the procedure. The programme also welcomes students from other master’s degrees who wish to complete all or part of their Final Master Project at UIC Barcelona.
The UIC research supervisor maintains continuous communication with the external host supervisor to ensure ongoing assessment of the student’s learning progress and the competencies acquired throughout the project. Although the Final Master Project is carried out at the host institution, the final defence and assessment take place at UIC Barcelona; therefore, no ECTS credit recognition is required at the host university.
The Faculty of Dentistry maintains agreements and collaborative projects with numerous internationally renowned universities, including institutions such as Geneva, Athens, Montpellier, King’s College London, University of Minnesota, University at Buffalo, New York University, Nova Southeastern University, Ghent, Universidad de los Andes, and Siena, thereby expanding mobility opportunities for students.
The International Relations Office provides information and administrative support regarding mobility grants and funding programmes (AGAUR, Erasmus, MEC, among others), as well as the documentation required for calls and applications that must be submitted directly by students.
