Debate Group

The university debate group offers you a dynamic learning space where you can develop your analytical thinking, argumentation skills, and oral expression through the exchange of ideas and respectful confrontation of viewpoints.

No prior experience is required — all you need is an interest in current affairs, a desire to think deeply, and a willingness to listen and engage in dialogue.

Soft skills: Critical thinking, excellence, empathy, assertive communication, conflict management, time management, and decision-making.

Josep Vicenç Mestre Nogué, holds a Ph.D. in History and Public Speaking from Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). He currently combines training executives at private companies with university teaching. He is an associate professor at UPF in the Schools of Humanities and Communication.  He has also taught at eight other universities (UB, URL, UOC, Tecnocampus Mataró, UdL, UIC, CEI, and FUB-Manresa).

He gained his experience in the fields of strategy and communication during his tenure at three departments of the Government of Catalonia and at the Parliament of Catalonia. Specifically, he has served as an advisor on Institutional Action for the Vice Presidency, on Institutional Relations for Business and Knowledge, and for the Office of Economy and Finance. He has also served as a communications advisor to the Presidency and the First Vice Presidency of the Parliament of Catalonia.

In addition, his academic career is marked by the publication of Palabras de presidente and Nación y Estado, two volumes that stem from the UPF’s award for the best doctoral dissertation in Catalan. Previously, he had earned a bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Political Science and a master’s degree in World History from the same university.

Eva Busquets, she holds a law degree and a master’s degree in law. She practices law at Uría Menéndez. She teaches insolvency law at several universities.

She has been active in the world of debate and public speaking for over eight years, having completed a minor in Public Speaking at the UPF and participated in numerous extracurricular training programs in debate, argumentation, and public speaking, both through debate clubs and professional training courses.

She has been recognized multiple times as a winner and top speaker in debate leagues and public speaking competitions, both in Catalonia and nationwide. Notable recent achievements include being named the 5th best speaker in Spain and winning the award for best speaker at the Barcelona Bar Association’s Legal Public Speaking Competition.

In addition, she is a co-founder of the Rhētorica Academic Debate Club at UPF. She has coordinated various debate activities for high school students, college students, and seniors.

  • September – April
  • Weekly sessions on Thursdays
  • 2 hours per session
