Visionary and Transgressive: Women Artists of Modernity

Facultat d'Humanitats Aula B601, Campus Barcelona

At the Faculty of Humanities we are proposing a new session of the lecture series with Cases Singulars entitled “Visionaries and Transgressors: Women Artists of Modernity”.

This year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, we will talk about four women who have marked the history of art and fashion:

  • Elsa Schiaparelli, fashion designer who introduced surrealism into the fashion world.
  • Hilma af Klint, painter and author of the first abstract work in history, before Kandinsky, who has only recently been recognised.
  • Coco Chanel, who not only set the course of contemporary fashion, but the very notion of the female body.
  • Marina Abramovic, the only living artist of the four, winner of the Princess of Asturias Award and  known worldwide as the “grandmother of performance”.

The lecture will be given by Anna Pou, art historian and lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities, with an introduction by Judith Urbano, dean of the Faculty of Humanities.

You can attend the session on campus (classroom B601) or online on 5 March, at 7.00 p.m.
