Roundtable: What do students need to develop a reading habit?
With Sant Jordi 2025 approaching, the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Education Sciences is organising the roundtable “What do students need to develop a reading habit?”, a debate with experts in education, children's literature and literacy on 2 April at 10:15 a.m. Teacher and UIC Barcelona graduate Laia Carnasa will perform the Legend of Sant Jordi with the innovative origami technique.
The debate will be moderated by the dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences, Enric Vidal, and will feature the participation of writer and UIC Barcelona lecturer Joan Portell, UIC Barcelona lecturers and experts in children's literature, Mariona Graell and Maria Pujol, youth librarian Marta Cava, and primary teacher and pioneer in Catalonia of the storygami technique, Laia Carnasa.
The roundtable will be held in classroom A21 of the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Education Sciences in an event open to the entire university community. There will be a space reserved for students of the Language Learning and Literacy and Didactics of Languages and Literature subjects, who will be able to actively participate in the debate with teachers and experts.
According to the latest PISA reports, reading comprehension has poor results, especially in Catalonia. In this context, the roundtable organised at UIC Barcelona will serve as a space for reflection and debate on new dynamics to encourage reading habits in children, the resources necessary to develop the passion for reading and the role of the teacher in the classroom as a motivational figure.
