Some 200 secondary school students take the B1-B2 English level exam at UIC Barcelona
Once again, the Department of Applied Linguistics, in a collaboration with Santillana – Richmond Publishing, is offering the B1-B2 English Certificate exam to secondary and upper-secondary school students. Part of the examinations took place this Friday morning at the Barcelona Campus of UIC Barcelona. The exam has been created by a test-writing team and is the only one on the market created specifically for this age group.

UIC Barcelona attends the Saló de l’Ensenyament and the Saló Futura
The University presents its degree programmes and courses at the 31st edition of one of Spain’s most important educational and training fairs. The event, held at the Fira de Barcelona exhibition centre from 16 to 20 March, provides attendees with information on all current educational programmes (vocational training courses, upper-secondary school, university degrees and higher education programmes, such as postgraduate and master's degrees).

Researcher Janine Knight implements a teaching innovation project between the Faculty of Education Sciences and the Àngel Baixeras Public School in Barcelona
Students from the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Education Sciences have created pictorial and oral dictionaries with year-six primary school children from the Àngel Baixeras School.

An overview and glimpse of the future of UIC Barcelona, in the Closing Session for this Academic Year
The Aula Magna at UIC Barcelona yesterday hosted the Closing Session for this Academic Year. At the event, which was aimed at both teaching and research staff and administration and service staff, an overview of the 2016-2017 academic year was provided and news for next year was announced. The new structure of the Sant Cugat Healthcare Campus was described, as well as some new appointments, such as that of Pilar Fernández Bozal, now the new Dean of the Faculty of Law. Once the event concluded medals were awarded to people who have been working at the university for 10 years.

Winners of the 8th Christmas Short Story Competition
Twenty three stories written by students, PAS, and PDI staff competed in the 8th UIC Barcelona Christmas Short Story Competition. The jury consisted of professors from the Faculty of Humanities Gaston Gilabert and Maria Victoria Roqué, as well as Laia Rosàs from the Catalan Office. They decided to award the Barcelona campus prize to David Molins Peláez, a 4th year Humanities student for his story entitled "Nacer de nuevo".  The Sant Cugat campus prize was awarded to MariaTeresa Jové, a 1st year Medicine student for her story entitled “Cai”.

Xavier Escribano: “Bob Dylan is much more than a Nobel Prize winner”.
Some of Bob Dylan’s songs were playing while Xavier Escribano, one of our Professors from the Faculty of Humanities, described Robert Allen Zimmerman’s background, this was Dylan’s real name. Dylan is a US singer-songwriter who started to write songs in 1962. More than 50 years on the impact he has made is clear, particularly since he was recently awarded with the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Doctor Xavier Garí directs a research project on the oral history of Catalan pacifism
During this month of November, one of our professors from the Faculty of Humanities, Dr Xavier Garí, was asked to coordinate a research project on the recovery of the oral history of Catalan pacifism. This project is coordinated by the International Catalan Institute for Peace (ICIP) in the Catalan Government.

The first Paddle Tennis Rector’s Tournament was recently held
On 21 October the first UIC Barcelona Paddle Tennis Rector’s Tournament was held, in which twelve pairs participated. Carlota Albiol and Natalia García, third year advertising students were the winners in the women’s category. Joan Recoder and Alejandro Ebrat, third year Law students, were awarded a trophy in the men’s category.
